The winter is a perfect time for bundling up and immersing yourself in a great TV series. Netflix has just recently added some new titles to tide us over into the warmer months. So sit back, relax, and cozy up for some of Netflix’s most high quality entertainment.
1. The Office:
Okay, so this series (created in 2005) isn’t new by any means. However, for me this remains one of the most bingeable comedy series that Netflix offers. It’s rare that American remakes of UK TV series hit their mark (ever seen the American Skins? We don’t recommend it…). However, the office stands as the pillar of a quality British remake. While the show takes a season to find itself, season two is considered pure comedy gold, and from there the show holds its own until finally loosing its steam in the later seasons. Although The Office isn’t perfect, it’s pretty darn close. And as far as feel good comedy series, I believe The Office sets the high watermark.
2. Documentary Now!
This spoof series created by Fred Armisen, Seth Meyers, and Bill Hader recreates famous documentaries ranging from the Thin Blue Line to Behind the Music. For some this comedy might come off as a bit dry and definitely irreverent. However, this what I personally love about this very unique series. Documentary Now! is a must watch, especially for the cinephile who will be more likely to pick up on the oftentimes subtle spoofs.
3. Mindhunter
This series create by Joe Penhall and produced by David Fincher is an absolute must watch for crime TV fanatics and really anyone that enjoys edge of your seat entertainment. This show painstakingly recreates real dialogue between infamous serial killers and the FBI criminal profilers who sought to put them behind bars. This series is beyond addictive so don’t be surprised if you blow through the whole first season in a night!
4. Trollhunters
This series was created by the ever talented and groundbreaking director Guillermo del Toro. Trollhunters is produced by DreamWorks Animation and thus is beautiful and filled with action. However, most parents should find it appropriate for the whole family. This family series is fast paced and as all the other shows on this list very addictive!
5. Better Call Saul
Personally, this is my favorite show on television. Yes, it has weighty dialogue and takes a certain level of viewer investment, but that’s exactly what I love about this series. The writing and acting are also absolutely impeccable. As many know this series is a spinoff of the Breaking Bad, one of the most heralded shows of all-time. Better Call Saul takes place before the events of Breaking Bad. As new lawyer Jimmy the tenacious yet often putdown hustler works to establish himself as the street-smart fixer we all know and love from Breaking Bad.
