1. Enjoy the Snow!
I think the first thing you should do on a snow day is
embrace the white stuff! Make snowmen, snow angels, snow forts, and maybe even
enlist the kiddo’s to help shovel the sidewalk!
2. Fun and Games
Break out your kids favorite games! I like to start off with
old fashion board games or card games like UNO to involve the whole family. If
the parents need a break, there’s no shame it letting the kids play their video
games, just try to mix it up so they don’t turn into snow zombies!
3. Hot Coco
We all know instant coco hits the spot on a
cold winter day. But if you haven’t tried homemade, this might be the perfect
time! Find the recipe here: https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/homemade-hot-cocoa/
4. Baking
If you wanted to get the kids involved in
baking but haven’t found the time or energy, a snow day might be the perfect
opportunity. Pick a recipe that everyone will love and get baking!
5. Finger-paint
This
is a tried and true classic and one I remember doing with my mother on snow
days. It’s a great excuse
for the kids to get messy and be creative! Find the recipe and instructions
here: https://herviewfromhome.com/her-pinspiration-finger-paint/
6. Coloring Printables
There are so many coloring pages that can
be printed out online. Let your kids each choose and theme, provide them with
crayons or coloring pencils and get coloring! Alternatively, if your children
are older or more artistically inclined, have them free-draw a snow day scene.
7. Reading Time
Snow days are often quiet and often
confined to our homes. So pick a good book from your library, cozy up and enjoy
and day or relaxation and imagination. If you’re looking for a children’s books
about a snow day there are many but my personal favorite is Ezra Jack Keats’, The Snowy Day.
8. Homemade Snowflakes
This
is such an easy and fun D.I.Y. decoration. If you have coffee filters lying
around these can be used for an
even easier design. Just fold them in half and then half one more time. Then
simply cut out shapes and your
well on your way to a beautiful snowflake!
9. Jumpstart Valentines or Easter Cards/Gifts
A snow day in the middle of January might
be the perfect time to start thinking D.I.Y. cards or gifts for the special
people in your life. Do some of your own research to get ideas or just go for
it! A homemade gift always means so much.
10. Have A Living Room Campout
As a kid I loved building forts. Tree forts,
snow forts, pillow forts, you name it. With the craziness of our modern lives
sometimes we need some good old fashioned fun! If you want to do a living room
campout, pretend you’re actually camping. Break out the flashlights, toast some
marshmallows in the oven, and blow up those sleeping pads!
