Home Window Winterization Techniques

Winter conjures thoughts of different sports and activities like skating, snowboarding and skiing. Apart from this, it is also the period where home heating costs increase. However, with the economic depression that many owners are facing right now, this can become huge a financial mill tostone to embark on. Now more and, more is the time to be looking for techniques to save on home heating particularly that those cold and snowy months are nearing. One of the best way to keep your home warm and cozy this winter is winterizing the windows. So, if you are looking for the best way to insulate your windows this winter, we have put together this mini-guide for you:
1.    Install Window Insulation Film
You can insulate your window by using window insulation film to create a barrier between the window and your home. With the use of simple kits you can get at your local hardware store you can easily insulate your window using skin-wrapped film. You will understand that this is a reasonably simple procedure once you figure out the proper installation technique. The only issue with DIY window film is that it can be unsightly and you can't open it once covered with this film. SO, it is advisable that you invest in a permanent solution and install architectural window film.
2.   Use Your Blinds
Another way to keep the drafts out and keep the heat in is by using blinds. So, if you have blinds install then you can open them when the sun comes up to allow the sun heat warm up your home and close them when the sun sets to retain the heat inside your home and open.
3.   Purchase Cellular Shades
Using cellular shades is another good way to insulate your windows for the cold season. One reason why this option is very popular is that it doesn't block light as the blinds do. This means you can protect your home for the chilly weathers while still enjoying natural lighting. You can also create a custom look with cellular shades as they can be cut to fit the individual windows.
4.   Install removable magnetic window insulation
If you want something that allows you open your windows during winter then removable magnetic window insulation is the perfect solution. Magnet are not like tapes and they hold insulating vinyl in place during cold days. All you have to do is to apply magnetic paint in layers and measure the vinyl to your window size, then attach magnetic tape to the vinyl. This procedure is durable and easy to remove as well.
5.    Seal the Windows
If you use window glass, then more heat tends to escape your home in the winter, and this is caused by the cracks in your window frame that allow most of the drafts escape. So, the best way to track this little cracks is to light an incense stick near your window frames and look for where the smoke is coming out. If you find a crack use caulk to seal those cracks.
