AMSCO Windows offers stylish windows and doors in several
lines appealing to both budget friendly and high-end customers. AMSCO is known
in the Salt Lake City area as the premiere window and door installer and prides
itself in using the best composite materials as well as giving its customers
options to get the perfect interior and exterior aesthetic. Speaking of the
perfect style, AMSCO provides a variety of options for the home or business
owner to get their window frame style just right.
AMSCO offers six varying styles concerning window frame
options and it’s common for the property owner to consider more than one style
to fit the room and aesthetic.
For example, I decided to go
with the horizontal slider windows for my main floor bedrooms but opted for a
double hung style for a basement bedroom egress window. It’s great to have
options, but if you’re anything like I was, you might not know what window
frame style is right for you. Below I’ve laid out some benefits of each style
that will hopefully give you better insight into choosing your AMSCO window
frame style.
Benefits/Considerations:
Double Hung/Tilt
The double hung window frame style is one of the most common
styles used in American homes. This style is similar to the most common single
hung frame style but has the advantage of moveable upper and lower sashes.
·
Many homeowners appreciate the option of having
a moveable upper and lower sash that can make cleaning and accessibility a
breeze.
·
AMSCO double hung windows have to be locked on
both the upper and lower sashes that create an added level of security. Some
models also have child locks available for upper level bedrooms.
·
Double hung windows are highly insulated but are
not quite as energy efficient as the more airtight single hung or casement
options.
·
Cleaning the double hung windows is very
accessible and easy due to the movability of the upper and lower sashes.
Casement Windows
Casement window are made up of two sashes hinged on both
sides. These windows open similarly to barn doors and it typically seen in
warmer climates where the windows can be left open throughout the day. Casement
windows are great for kitchens, uppers rooms, or living areas where the
homeowner wants plenty of natural airflow.
Benefits/Considerations:
·
Casement windows are opened with a crank located
near the lower interior sash. When shut properly the windows are completely
flush with the exterior frame, which insures near complete security from the
outside. However, the crank may be seen as less convenient than single and
double hung windows that simply slide shut.
·
Even though casement windows are thought of as
warmer climate windows they are also very energy efficient. The two large panes
allow only a very small portion of air to pass through which keeps those air
conditioning bills low!
·
Cleaning the panes of casement windows is very
easy considering the two large separate panes. One thing to be mindful of is
that the hinges can rust due to the expose to outside air. Therefore, the
hinges should be regularly checked and sealed to prevent rust.
·
When it comes to functionality casement windows
are hard to beat. Casement windows allow for great ventilation but shut also
offer some of the best insulation.
Horizontal Slider
(Single, double vent style)
The horizontal slide frame is very common due to its
functionality and appeal in a wide variety of architectural styles. They offer
great ventilation and also work well for egress purposes.
·
Horizontal slider frame offer excellent
convenience and ease of use. Simply unlock and effortlessly slide open. Dual
frames make cleaning and accessibility very easy.
·
AMSCO’s horizontal slide frames come with the
added security of their SentryLock holding the industry standard for forced
entry protection.
·
Horizontal sliders are reasonably energy
efficient. Homeowners who want extra insulation during the winter months may
consider sealing with plastic for an extra layer of insulation.
Awning
Awning windows are a great way to add style and
functionality to your home. This style is often seen in contemporary home
designs. Awning windows can also be placed above windows or doors to add more
light or ventilation to a room. The awning style is similar to the casement
frame as they are wider and open using a crank. Awning windows open from the
bottom toward to top of the house.
·
Awning windows when properly closed using an
interior crank are highly secure, similar to casement window frames.
·
Awning windows provide great ventilation but
also create a great insulating barrier when closed properly.
·
They can be placed in rows adding beautiful
natural light to any home.
Fixed
Fixed windows are “fixed” to the frame and therefore can’t
be opened. This style is used to add design accents or to add natural light to
a space.
·
Fixed window frame styles are highly
customizable just like all of AMSCO’s frame styles! Octagon and circle shapes
are available.
·
They add beautiful design textures or extra
lighting to brighten up a room!
