AMSCO Windows Care & Maintenance

AMSCO Windows’ commitment to quality and customer service is the company’s top priority. You will be hard-pressed to find better quality and service anywhere in the Salt Lake City area. However, once AMSCO’s installers have finished their job, it’s up to us, the customer, to keep our windows clean and clear. Below I’ve given the customer some tips, the Do’s and Don’ts of window care and maintenance.

Do’s:
·     The first step of a thorough window cleaning is to wipe down the surface with a non-abrasive cloth and to vacuum the dirt and debris from the sill and track area. This is important because dirt tends to get caught in these small spaces, which can affect efficiency and performance.
·     Clean and window glass and frame with a mixture of mild dish soap and water. Then rinse again with only clean water. Finally, dry, making sure to use a non-abrasive cloth.
·     Most vinyl AMSCO Windows have drainage or “weep” holes. Make sure to keep these clean and clear of dirt or debris.
·     Clean window screens by carefully removing them, washing them on a flat clean surface with water, mild soap and a soft brush.
·     After cleaning, make sure to properly lubricate window tracks, roller and locking hardware with a non-petroleum based lubricant.
·     Clean on a cloudy day. This ensures the cleaning liquid doesn’t dry too fast which creates smears and spotting.
Don’ts:
·     Never use an abrasive or previously used cloth. Abrasive material can become lodged in dirty cloths and cause scratching.
·     Don’t use paper towels for window cleaning purposes. While they aren’t the worst material one can use, they are quite ineffective for window cleaning, as they tend to just move dust around the window.
·     Don’t try to clean high or upper level windows without the proper equipment. If you are unsure if you can clean you windows safely, don’trisk it! Visit AMSCO’s website for a list of trusted local window cleaners.
·     Don’t use some types of glass cleaners with alcohol or ammonia. This one may seem surprising but certain window cleaners can leave unattractive streaking. They also can form a film that makes windows more prone to collect dust and debris. Make it easy on yourself and stick to mild soap and water!
·     Don’t clean on a sunny or hot day. Excess sun will cause your cleaning product to dry quickly, which can cause smears or spotting.
