Home Care Winterization Tips

The winter season is upon us, and before the cold winds start to blow in, it is essential that you take all the necessary steps that will help winterize your home. Winterizing your home makes your home more comfortable for you and also make it more energy efficient, so you and your loved ones can stay warm and toasty without breaking the bank trying to pay for energy bills. This is why winterizing your home can help make your home more energy efficient. It doesn't take much to get your home more energy efficient, and you only need some tips to help you properly winterize your home. Listed below are things you can do to ensure you have a safe and warm home this winter.
1.   Carefully test the heating system
Your home heating system should be in utmost importance before the cold season because it should reach its peak performance during the wintertime. The cool temperatures can cause a range of medical conditions and seniors are at risk the most. This is why making sure your senior and little ones are safe is very important. Also, make sure you check if vents are closed and doors to unoccupied rooms are closed.
2.   Close Down Irrigation System
The best way to protect the watering system you enjoy so much during the winter season but spending $60-$70 to blow out water out of your irrigation system is annoying. This is something you can do yourself, but it is advisable that you hire the service of a professional to do that for you, so your water supply is adequately contained. This might be time-consuming, but it is worth keeping your irrigation system in good shape.
3.   Clean Gutters
IF you have trees that shed leaves in your gutter, then it is essential to clean out your gutters with a ladder. The reason for this is to make sure that there is a proper way for the snow to melt out. This will reduce the chance of water backing up in your dams and roof that may eventually cause water leak into your home.
4.   Furnace & Duct Maintenance
You don’t have to wait until your furnace filter stops working before you change them. You need to change the filter regularly to make sure that warm air flows efficiently, and this will save your energy bills and also keep the air quality at optimal performance. This is also a time of the year when you should consider sealing your duct. If you have a new home, you don’t want to worry about this, but for those with old home then you need to keep your ducts maintained.
5.   Make blankets and winter clothing easily accessible
If you have seniors in your home, then one issue they might face is locating winter items such as blankets clothing. So, you need to sure that all the winter items are within reach in their living space and place it where they use to get dressed or bundled up to go out.
