The only thing needed for chaos to descend in an otherwise clean home is some scattered papers, a few blankets tossed here and there, and a huge pile of shoes by the door. Luckily for you, with a quick round of de-cluttering, your home will be clean and comfortable. With this clutter cleanup checklist, you’ll be able to clean up the clutter in your home quickly and keep your home organized.
Clutter Cleanup Tips
- Pick a room to start and stay there till it’s completely cleaned. Any item you find that doesn’t belong in the room should be placed in a box or a laundry basket. Carry this basket from room to room picking up items that don’t belong there. You can return everything to its rightful place once you’re done de-cluttering.
- Use a damp rag to wipe away dust bunnies. Vacuuming can come much later
- Reduce, reuse, and recycle. Take time to gather up unneeded items in a recycle bag, trash bag, or perhaps donate them to charity organizations such as Goodwill. The less stuff you have, the less cluttered your home will be.
- Place a small recycling or trash bin in each room to encourage the occupants to toss anyitem in the trash/recycle bin
- Seasonal items such as snow gear or grilling tools should be kept in one spot.
How to De-clutter Your Kitchen
- For some reason, paper always ends up piling up in the kitchen. Designate one spot for your mails, bills, etc. once a week, sort through the pile and file, shred, or throw away any mail or bill as needed.
- Some people tend to use the top of the refrigerator as a storage space. Find a new home for these items. You’ll appreciate the visual improvement immensely.
- If you wish to do a deep clutter removal, check the expiry dates of perishable items in your pantry, fridge or cabinet and toss any that areexpired.
- Dispose of any old cleaning product you find under the kitchen sink. Designate a single bucket for your cleaning products and keep all of them there. That way you won’t have to search for any product, you can just grab the bucket and be on your way.
De-cluttering Your Bathrooms
- The first thing you want to do is reduce clutter on the bathroom sink counter. Return polishes, toiletries, colognes, moisturizers, hair brushes, hair care products etc. to their respective drawers or cabinets.
- Wipe down your mirror with a spray of glass cleaner, straighten bath mats, and fold all towels.
- Keep a hamper in your bathroom so you aren’t tempted to throw dirty towels and clothes on the floor
- Place a magnet strip on the inside of the medicine cabinet door to keep all your bobby pins in one place.
