With summer underway and the sun out, there’s no better time to host a barbecue party. But after all the use its been put to last summer followed by a long winter in your shed, your BBQ grill probably looks worse for wear. Thanks to that, cleaning the grill can be a hassle. There’s burnt fat, grime and old coal stains on the grill. The good news is you can get your BBQ grill looking sparkling new with these nine simple tips.
1. Coffee Vs. Grime
Coffee can be an excellent cleaning agent for your grill. Brew some cheap coffee and pour it on your sink. Soak your grill and your utensils in the coffee. You might need a couple liters to completely soak everything. After about an hour, give it a quick scrub and hose down with how water. The grime should wash right off. The acid of the coffee is what helps to loosen the caked on residue and grease.
2. Onions for the win
Divide an onion in two and using a fork or some prongs, use the moist side to make contact with a hot grill. As long as this isnot a meat-intensivegrill, it should be enough to get your BBQ clean.
3. Aluminum foil
If an onion isn’t available, then you can use vinegar and an aluminum foil. Spray vinegar on the grill and wait for a while (till you can breathe in its vicinity). Ball up a sheet of aluminum foil and use to remove any trace of dirt you come across.
4. Natural cleaning
Homemade cleaning remedies are also a great way to get your BBQ grill looking brand new. Mix a tablespoon of baking soda, a tablespoon of vinegar, and a liter of hot water. Allow your grill soak in this solution for an hour and then clean as you normally would.
Before using your cutting board, you need to make sure that all the bacteria from the raw meat preparation is gone. Rub lemon and salt on the tainted areas and wipe it all off.
6. A quick tip for Smokey house clothes
Tired of having your clothes and drapes getting tainted after a barbecue? Dilute some vinegar and water and use this solution to lightly spray the affected areas. This helps against the fat and also absorbs the smell. You can also leave a sponge soaked in vinegar on the areas that are typically affected. This helps to combat the invasive fat and smoke smells emanating from the BBQ.
7. Rust be gone
Is your barbecue an iron barbecue? One way to prevent it from rusting is to wipe it down with olive oil (or something similar) when you’re done cleaning it.
8. Steam off
Steam can also make it easier to clean your BBQ grill by loosening the dirt. Fill a shallow tin with boiling water. Place the tin with water in the lit BBQ and close the lid.
9. Use a spatula to scrape off grime
Use a hot, robust spatula to scrape off most the grime. The heat will make it easier for the grime to come off. Do this immediately after cooking so the old food residue doesn’tfall on the new coal.
