Tips For DIY Window Cleaning

Professional window cleaning can be expensive and there's no guarantee of a good job. People say that if you want a good job doing you should do it yourself, but where to start? It's important to have the right tools and equipment before you start.
Glass cleaner
Past generations and even some people today swear by vinegar as a great window cleaner. It is true that is helps to leave a streak-free shine, but it has the strong disadvantage of smelling, so it isn't a great choice on the insides of your windows, unless you want your home to smell like the inside of a crisp packet or a chip shop. There are several effective window cleaning solutions on the market, and modern ones don't contain ammonia. To ensure you get value for money you should buy a very concentrated cleaner, meaning your bottle will last longer (concentrated cleaners also benefit the environment by reducing plastic bottle manufacture and transport). A good strength concentrated cleaner will require only two tablespoons for every four litres of water, meaning that the bottle will really last.
Tools
A good sponge is a must. But what about when it comes to cleaning conservatory roofs or upstairs windows? You could use a ladder, but this carries the risk of slipping or falling, or that your ladder may scratch or damage windows and gutter when it leans on them. A better solution is to invest in a water fed telescopic window cleaning pole. This type of pole connects to conventional garden hoses and extends upwards with interchangeable brush heads on the end to make window cleaning safer and easier. These poles use a lot less water than you might think thanks to their water saving design.

It might seem expensive to pay the initial prices to invest in a water fed pole and some good quality window cleaning solution, but the outlay soon pays for itself in the savings made on paying for professional window cleaning services. Additionally, ammonia free solutions and ladder-free alternatives increase safety, and you can't put a price on that.
