Molds
problem is a constant nightmare to many homeowners. What happens if molds get
ahold of our house? What if my family gets sick because of molds? What if one
day you wake up and molds are just all over your house? Okay, the last one’s a
bit of an exaggeration.

But admit
it. Every once in a while, you sit and ask yourself these questions while
looking between the gaps of your doors and windows. How can you keep your home
mold-free and safe for your family? How can you avoid the damage that mold can
cause in your home?
We want to
give you some peace of mind. So we are giving you these tips on how to keep
molds out of your house and out of your life.
The Mother of all Molds
There is
one key word to prevent when talking about molds – MOISTURE. This is the mother
of all molds, so to say. Molds grow in areas that are damp, humid and receives
less sunlight. That is the description of their best breeding place. Therefore,
to discuss about preventing molds in coming into your home, we will have to
focus our attention to eliminating the possibility in the first place. And this
is done through limiting, if possibly avoiding moisture in your home.
Check for Areas of Possibility
The first
thing we recommend that you do is to check areas that could be the possible
breeding ground for molds. For your windows, check the seals if they are still
working properly. Broken seals can let warm air in and out of the house,
therefore, creating moisture and providing an opportunity for molds to grow.
Also check
for areas that are always exposed to water such as your windows, doors, toilet
walls and doors and laundry areas. You know your house, therefore, you know
where to look for.
Dry Wet Areas and Surfaces Immediately
This can’t
wait. Molds can grow within days and surely, you won’t want them to get that
opportunity. So, after checking your entire house and finding out the wet areas
and possible breeding ground, immediately work on cleaning and drying those wet
surfaces.

Improving Ventilation System
A failing
ventilation system can result to moisture forming inside the house. When it’s
too cold, the area becomes too damp and condensed. When it’s too hot, it
becomes too humid and warm air entering the house without an exit path can still
cause moisture in the air.
The key in
avoiding this is through a proper ventilation system. If necessary, install
exhaust fans around the house, especially the damp and humid areas, to reduce
the moisture it creates. Also fix gaps and leaks between doors and windows to
allow air to freely flow within your home. Broken windows and doors cannot
function properly the way they do when they are in good shape.
Consider Redecorating
Moving
furniture pieces every once in a while is also a very useful method to avoid
the formation of molds in the house. This way, moisture can’t accumulate so
much in one area. When you free an area of a furniture, the air that is
compressed below the furniture can freely flow, therefore, reducing the risk of
moisture and molds.
There are
more ways to reduce the formation of molds in your house. All you got to do is to
inspect your house once in a while and be aware of the possible infested areas.
Cleaning is also very helpful.
