Currently, there are several styles of window blinds that
are designed to block light from entering via a window. But the purpose of
blinds isn't only for blocking direct light, they are also used to create a
certain style and to set a mood. Blinds come in many shapes and sizes. They are
even constructed with different materials including plastic, fabric, metal and
wood. They are available either in a vertical or a horizontal arrangement.
COMMON STYLES OF
WINDOW BLINDS
1. THE HORIZONTAL
BLINDS
The horizontal style window blinds are the most prevalent
type of blinds. They can be either raised or lowered from the bottom in order
to give just the right desired amount of light.
2. THE VERTICAL
BLINDS
Vertical style window blinds use a series of vertical slats
that hang from a top rail in order to allow them to be drawn either to the side
or to the center making them particularly useful as coverings for exterior type
doorways.
Vertical blinds do have quite a few advantages over
horizontal style blinds. First of all, they tend to be more durable and even
stronger than the horizontal style blinds. Secondly, since they are in fact
vertical, they do not need to be dusted that often. Vertical style blinds are
constructed from a wide variety of materials just like horizontal blinds.
Also, the vertical blinds are most often used for exterior
style doors. Despite the fact that vertical blinds are considered a more
durable choice, care must be taken whenever using them in high traffic doorways
in order to prevent damage. Vertical blinds will help protect against cold
drafts in the winter months and will protect against the heat in the summer
months which collectively help reduce your utility bills.
3. SLAT OR PERSIAN
The slat blinds are truly the most sought after window
blind. They consist of many horizontal slats. These style blinds have a series
of strings holding them together, which determines the exact amount of light
allowed in between each individual slat. Whenever pulling the string all the
way, it allows the entire window to be exposed. This in turn enables most of
the light to enter the window. Slat or Persian style blinds are constructed in
plastic, metal, or stiffened fabric.
4. VENETIAN
Venetian blinds are most typically constructed from plastic,
metal, wood or bamboo. These are actually a form of horizontal blinds which can
be rotated at approximately 180 degrees. The slats will be in sync with each
other whenever being rotated, which can be pulled with a cord.
5. HONEYCOMB
BLINDS AND CELLULAR BLINDS
A more stylish and sophisticated style of blinds. These
blinds are beautiful and when you look at them from the side, they look like a
series of honeycombs. They keep the room temperature regulated in both summer
and winter.
